Legislative Strengthening

House Democracy Assistance Initiative – FMI is currently implementing USAID’s Technical Assistance and Training to Support Legislatures Involved in the HDAC Initiative Project. FMI is working with former members of Congress and staff to support HDAC partner programs with legislatures and parliaments around the world. These programs expose members of partner legislatures and parliaments to best practices, processes, and procedures of the United States Congress, and help to institutionalize these practices to provide better legislative, representational, and oversight capabilities of partner members. FMI is working with legislatures and parliaments in Afghanistan, Georgia, Haiti, Kenya, Kosovo, Liberia, Mongolia, Peru, and Ukraine.

Legislative Strengthening: Alternative Approaches to Legislative Strengthening – For USAID, FMI explored and assessed alternative approaches to legislative strengthening, with a particular focus on economic development issues. FMI reviewed USAID’s legislative strengthening portfolio and prepared a study of commercial and economic issue activities for legislative strengthening projects. Then FMI designed and implemented a workshop to discuss the study’s findings present FMI’s special approach to legislative strengthening.
